Tentative Agreement On Friday, April 27, 2018, the District and the La Mesa-Spring Valley Teachers Association completed negotiations and reached a tentative agreement on salary and benefits. The teams negotiated a three (3) year agreement (July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2020).
Salary Schedule Increases The tentative agreement includes a 5% salary schedule increase as indicated below:
Year | Salary Schedule Increase | Effective Date |
2017-2018 | 2% | January 1, 2018 |
2018-2019 | 2% | January 1, 2019 |
2019-2020 | 1% (subject to a salary reopener contingency) | January 1, 2020 |
Grandfathering of Existing Employees – Restoration of Health and Dental Insurance Provisions Upon Retirement
The District and the Teachers Association also agreed to “grandfather” ALL unit members currently employed by the District so that they will once again be eligible for 100% District paid health and dental benefits upon retirement, regardless of the year in which they retire (in accordance with Article 5 of the Teachers Association Bargaining Agreement). Employees hired after June 30, 2018 would not be eligible for such retirement benefits.
We also bargained two (2) mandatory professional development days for adult learning, which will be added to the 2019-2020 regular work year calendar (representing approximately 1.0% additional compensation for unit members, in addition to the 5% listed above). The teams agreed to revised contract language regarding class size for foreign language classes (Article 3), Professional Learning Communities (Article 21), Induction Program (Article 19), and Extra Duty Compensation (Appendix F). The teams also agreed to extend the Specialized Academic Instruction (SAI) MOU for an additional year.
We will be finalizing language for the tentative agreement on Tuesday.
Until next time,
