• California is now offering, at no cost to local schools, districts or students, three online databases.  They are commonly referred to as "library databases". They provide teachers and students with a massive online library of books, scientific research, newspaper articles, photos, videos and more!  All are aligned with curriculum that California has created for it's schools.

     

    • Britannica School - Grades 4-8

      • General database including encyclopedias, biographies, atlases, tours of the USA, country comparisons, images and videos. 

      • Tools: citations, translates to most languages, audio, dictionary of every word in English and Spanish (just double click on the word), set article reading level to 1, 2, or 3. 

    • SIRS Discoverer - Grades 4-8

      • General database including encyclopedias, nonfiction books, science fair explorer and pro/con leading issues.

      • Tools: search by grade level or lexile level, audio, citations, and translates to limited languages.

    • ProQuest eLibrary - Grades 6-8

      • General database

      • Tools: citations and translates to limited languages

    • Culture Grams - Grades 4-8

      • Countries, States and Ancient Civilization database

      • Tools: citations, audio, and translates to limited languages

    • SIRS Issues Researcher - Grades 7-8

      • Database of Pros and Cons for Issues

      • Tools: citations, audio, translates to limited languages and search by grade level or text lexile level
