    Alliance for a Healthier Generation
This September, the Alliance for a Healthier Generation will be observing the second National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month. Whether at home, school or in the community, we all have an opportunity to positively influence the daily health habits of young people. The Alliance offers an abundance of resources to parents, educators, industry leaders and community organization directors on our website, so that we can collectively get the children in our lives eating better and moving more. Also, we’re excited to announce that with the help of national celebrities, media organizations and kids themselves, we will elevate the issue of childhood obesity, showcase positive transformations happening around the country and offer information to help anyone join the effort.
Birthday Celebrations at Casa de Oro

As we all know, the poor economy continues to take its toll. Our District has faced many budget cuts. This year we have fewer custodial hours. That means less time to clean rooms. Our staff is committed to ensuring classrooms are clean and safe. To that end, we made a school-wide decision, along with many other schools in our district, to eliminate food treats in the celebration of birthdays and holidays. Please do not bring cupcakes or other food treats for your child’s birthday. The custodian will not be able to clean up daily and we do not want our rooms to become a welcoming environment for pests. If you wish to send a treat, it must be nonfood such as pencils, stickers, or maybe a book donation to the classroom. Thank you in advance for supporting our commitment to keeping our classrooms clean and healthy. Your cooperation is noticed and appreciated.
