• Welcome to the 16-17 School Year!

    Dear Loma Families:

I am excited to officially join the Loma team this year.   Last year, I was fortunate to finish the school year as acting principal of Loma Elementary.  Previously, I have been the mathematics resource teacher for La Mesa Spring Valley School District for the last three years.  During that time, I have been to schools and classrooms across the district, including Loma Elementary, presenting math lessons and helping both teachers and students.  I have made many presentations at parent information sessions and ELAC meetings to help parents support their students at home with mathematics.

At Loma, we are committed to teaching a Standards-based, well-rounded education. The CCSS in Language Arts and Math and include critical thinking, problem solving, technology, and project based approaches to learning. Last year, students began using Math Expressions our newly adopted mathematics textbook for K-5 and Springboard for 6th grade.  This year, we are excited to bring Wonders, our newly adopted textbook, to the Language Arts classroom.

Our primary academic focus will always be literacy across the curriculum. Literacy is the gateway to reading, comprehending, writing and communicating. College/Career Readiness and critical thinking skills are at the core of Common Core.  Loma teachers are excited to begin a new homeroom class which will focus on building literacy skills through the use of Lexia and small group instruction.

As always, safety is our primary focus.  Each month we focus on one of our 6 character traits and/or school rules.  Bullying is not tolerated. Disciple assemblies will be held throughout the year to remind students of the importance of being “safe, healthy, respectful, and responsible” every day.

Ultimately, you are the most important factor in your child’s education.  We welcome your feedback and invite you on to our campus.  I encourage to get involved in whatever ways you can whether by volunteering on campus, participating in one of the numerous groups (ELAC, SSC, PTA), or asking your student what he/she learned that day at school .

If you ever have any questions, comments, or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.  I am look forward to the opportunity to work with each and every one of you.  This will be a great year, and I am truly fortunate to be a part of it.
