Dear Maryland Avenue Families,

I am excited to begin the 2021-2022 school year with you! My name is Stephanie Starr and I am the new principal of Maryland Avenue Elementary School. Maryland Avenue is a wonderful learning community with a tradition of excellence. I am honored to be a part of this dynamic team of teachers and staff committed to student learning, student well-being, and strong partnerships between home and school. By working together, we will have a great impact on each child’s success in school. Our district motto is “Every Child Learning Everyday” and our Maryland Avenue teachers and staff embrace high expectations and high levels of collaboration to ensure all students succeed.

On behalf of all of us at Maryland Avenue, we look forward to an exciting school year where students, staff, and our community learn and grow together. I hope you are enjoying your summer and are as excited about the new school year and new learning opportunities as we are!  I look forward to earning your trust as we partner in educating, nurturing, and supporting our students.

Home School, Online, and Independent Study

Our Trust Blended Learning program offers families the opportunity to continue with distance learning in a format that works for them. The Trust program offers traditional homeschool, online-only, and blended learning options for families who prefer a less traditional or more home-based learning model. While each model is a bit different, all students enrolled in Trust will participate in daily virtual instruction in addition to independent learning activities.

Student Safety

School safety of our Maryland Avenue students a top priority. We ask that all visitors enter the school through the front office and check in for the safety of all of our students. The front gate will remain locked during school hours. Thank you for understanding about the need for security for all of our students.

Be involved in your child’s education!

There are many ways to get involved at Maryland Avenue. Joining the PTA is a great way to begin. Your small donation helps provide many opportunities for our children. You can also turn in a Volunteer Opportunities form to let the PTA know what areas or activities you’d like to be involved in. Lending a helping hand by volunteering in your child’s classroom another way to share your talents.

The most important way that you can get involved is to simply stay informed about what is happening at school and in the classroom. Please make a point of meeting and keeping in touch with your child’s teacher. We must work together to ensure that our children do the very best they possibly can.

Peace Builder Program

Maryland Avenue is a proud Peace Builder School. We begin each day with Peace Circle where we recite our Peace Builder Pledge and praise students who have demonstrated Peace Builder behavior. Students learn the Peace Builder Pledge in Kindergarten and use it throughout their time here at Maryland Avenue.
