Welcome

Welcome to Maryland Avenue! I am excited to begin another school year with your families! I would like to extend a warm welcome to our returning families, as well as to our new families.

Maryland Avenue is a wonderful learning community with a tradition of excellence. I feel privileged to be part of such a dedicated staff like this, one that is focused on and committed to student learning. I intend to continue to support and contribute to the learning environment. As we move into this school year, you will notice our classrooms focusing on student collaboration, providing evidence, having students explain their thinking, rigorous reading and math materials, academic vocabulary, non-fiction and opinion writing.

I have always loved the beginning of a new school year. It is an exciting time filled with new friendships and many possibilities to learn and grow. I hope you have enjoyed your summer and are ready for new learning opportunities. I am confident that the 2019-2020 school year is going to be a success!

At Maryland Avenue, we believe that educating a child is truly a partnership between home and school. Working together, a school and a family will have the greatest impact on a child’s success in school. There are many ways you can help your child be successful in school this year, including communicating with your child’s teacher on a regular basis, supporting classroom expectations at home, reading to or with your child at home, and helping with homework. We invite all parents to be involved by joining our PTA, attending school functions such as Back-to-School Night and Open House, and attending parent-teacher conferences. Volunteers are always welcome at Maryland Avenue. Our goal is to work together to ensure student success.

I look forward to this school year with all of you and earning your trust and respect as we work together. My door is always open. Please feel free to stop by or contact me with any questions, praise, or concerns you may have.

Respectfully,
Kelli Maringer, Principal

Student Safety

School safety of our Maryland Avenue students a top priority. We ask that all visitors enter the school through the front office and check in for the safety of all of our students. The front gate will remain locked during school hours. Thank you for understanding about the need for security for all of our students.

Be involved in your child’s education!

There are many ways to get involved at Maryland Avenue. Joining the PTA is a great way to begin. Your small donation helps provide many opportunities for our children. You can also turn in a Volunteer Opportunities form to let the PTA know what areas or activities you’d like to be involved in. Lending a helping hand by volunteering in your child’s classroom another way to share your talents.

The most important way that you can get involved is to simply stay informed about what is happening at school and in the classroom. Please make a point of meeting and keeping in touch with your child’s teacher. We must work together to ensure that our children do the very best they possibly can.

Peace Builder Program

Maryland Avenue is a proud Peace Builder School. We begin each day with Peace Circle where we recite our Peace Builder Pledge and praise students who have demonstrated Peace Builder behavior. Students learn the Peace Builder Pledge in Kindergarten and use it throughout their time here at Maryland Avenue.
