Welcome

Welcome to Maryland Avenue Elementary School! I am excited to be beginning another year with the Maryland Avenue community as your Principal! I would like to extend a warm welcome to our returning families, as well as many new families.

Maryland Avenue is a wonderful learning community with a tradition of excellence. I feel privileged to be part of a dedicated staff like this, one that is focused on and committed to student learning. I intend to continue to support and contribute to the learning environment we have in place.

We believe that educating a child is truly a partnership between home and school. There are many ways you can help your child be successful in school, including communicating with your child’s teacher on a regular basis, supporting classroom expectations at home, reading to or with your child at home, and helping with homework. We invite all parents to be involved by joining our P.T.A., attending school functions such as Back-to-School Night and Open House, and attending conferences. Parents can also help out by offering to serve on the School Site Council or English Learner Advisory Committee. Volunteers are always welcome at Maryland Avenue. Our goal is to work together to ensure student success.

Maryland Avenue is proud to be a PeaceBuilder school! As PeaceBuilders, we notice hurts, give up put-downs, right wrongs, praise people, seek wise people, and help others. Throughout the year, we also emphasize developing specific character traits such as respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, citizenship, and fairness.

My door is always open. Please feel free to stop by or contact me with any questions, praise, or concerns you may have.

Respectfully,
Kelli Maringer, Principal

Maryland Avenue Yearbook!

Our PTA is excited to offer a yearbook for the 2018-2019 school year! The yearbook will be over 44 pages and in full color. It will contain class photos and candid shots taken during school and of school and PTA events throughout the school year. However, we need your help! The yearbook costs over $3,000 to produce and takes many volunteer hours to put together. It is through your donations that will make this yearbook possible! Please help us earn enough money to create a wonderful Yearbook for our students to cherish for years to come and to sustain our school yearbook tradition.

Student Safety

School safety of our Maryland Avenue students a top priority. We ask that all visitors enter the school through the front office and check in for the safety of all of our students. The front gate will remain locked during school hours. Thank you for understanding about the need for security for all of our students.

Be involved in your child’s education!

There are many ways to get involved at Maryland Avenue. Joining the PTA is a great way to begin. Your small donation helps provide many opportunities for our children. You can also turn in a Volunteer Opportunities form to let the PTA know what areas or activities you’d like to be involved in. Lending a helping hand by volunteering in your child’s classroom another way to share your talents.

The most important way that you can get involved is to simply stay informed about what is happening at school and in the classroom. Please make a point of meeting and keeping in touch with your child’s teacher. We must work together to ensure that our children do the very best they possibly can.

Peace Builder Program

Maryland Avenue is a proud Peace Builder School. We begin each day with Peace Circle where we recite our Peace Builder Pledge and praise students who have demonstrated Peace Builder behavior. Students learn the Peace Builder Pledge in Kindergarten and use it throughout their time here at Maryland Avenue.
