Our school library is open and available for student, staff and parent use throughout the school year.  Classrooms visit the library weekly to hear stories, use resources and check out library books.  All library books are due the following week and can be renewed if needed (with a few exceptions).  Children are instructed on how to use the resources in the library, find library books, library rules and appropriate library behavior.  If a student loses or damages a library book  that is beyond repair, parents are asked to pay for the cost of the book.

Battle of the Books

What is Battle of the Books??

Battle of the Books is a reading incentive program for students in the grades 4 – 6.  Students read books and come together to demonstrate their abilities and test their knowledge of the books they have read.  The competitions are similar in style to the Academic Bowl, where teams from local schools battle it out over their book knowledge. Students selected for Team Highlands must read at least 7 books from the list below and prepare for competition by attending practice sessions during recess. Students must also practice teamwork and good citizenship. Parents/Guardians are responsible for providing their student’s transportation for the Battle of the Books competition(s).
