In order to ensure that all children have the same learning opportunities, the distance learning program will be composed of three elements: independent study, teacher support, and supplemental online learning.
Independent Study – The core of our distance learning program will be based on the district’s existing independent study (IS) program. IS is provided through self-paced curriculum packets (digital or hard copy) that are supported by your child’s teacher. Curriculum packets and pacing guides will include two weeks worth of learning materials and will be distributed at all schools (at scheduled times) and on the district website: www.lmsvschools.org/learning-resources/. Students who are in special education placements with alternative curriculum will be provided packets with resources from those curriculum sources.
Teacher Support – Teachers will engage their students to support their continued learning. Depending on student access, support may occur over the phone, email, Zoom, Google Classroom, in Jupiter Grades or another online application. Parents and students are encouraged to reach out to their teachers for support. Two-way communication is critical.
Supplemental and Online Learning – Schools will offer a myriad of online supplemental learning opportunities by grade level for students to connect with their classmates and their teachers. This may include Zoom virtual classes, Seesaw activities, Flipgrid activities, virtual scavenger hunts, etc. Parents should expect to hear more from teachers and principals about supplemental learning opportunities.
