In order to ensure that all children have the same learning opportunities, the distance learning program will be composed of three elements: independent study, teacher support, and supplemental online learning.

Independent Study – The core of our distance learning program will be based on the district’s existing independent study (IS) program. IS is provided through self-paced curriculum packets (digital or hard copy) that are supported by your child’s teacher. Curriculum packets and pacing guides will include two weeks worth of learning materials and will be distributed at all schools (at scheduled times) and on the district website: Students who are in special education placements with alternative curriculum will be provided packets with resources from those curriculum sources.

Teacher Support – Teachers will engage their students to support their continued learning. Depending on student access, support may occur over the phone, email, Zoom, Google Classroom, in Jupiter Grades or another online application. Parents and students are encouraged to reach out to their teachers for support. Two-way communication is critical.

Supplemental and Online Learning – Schools will offer a myriad of online supplemental learning opportunities by grade level for students to connect with their classmates and their teachers. This may include Zoom virtual classes, Seesaw activities, Flipgrid activities, virtual scavenger hunts, etc. Parents should expect to hear more from teachers and principals about supplemental learning opportunities.

Interdistrict and Intradistrict Transfer Requests

Since the interdistrict and intradistrict transfer windows closed during the time of emergency school closures, we will be extending the transfer window through April 30, 2020, for this year only.

Families will be able to submit transfers in one of three ways:

  1. Via email to Maria Mijares (
  2. Via U.S. mail (postmarked by April 30)
  3. In person at the Education Center, 4750 Date Avenue, La Mesa, CA 91942, on Thursdays, beginning April 23, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM
We will have staff on hand in the boardroom to answer questions regarding transfers and there will be a dropbox available outside for those who just want to drop off transfer forms.  All required health policies will be followed.

Blank transfer forms are available online at or can be picked up at the district on Thursdays, as indicated above.

Once the transfer window closes on April 30, all remaining requests will be processed and applicable lotteries will be held.  Families will be notified as soon as possible. It is our intent to still try to meet our beginning of June notification timeline.  Once a transfer has been approved, families will be able to enroll online at their school of choice; please do not enroll until notified of an approved transfer.

If you are requesting an interdistrict transfer (i.e. a transfer into LMSV from another district), and you are unable to obtain the signed release from the other district due to their closure requirements, you may submit a copy of your request to LMSV pending approval by the other district (they will still need to sign the release before any transfer will be officially approved).  Please notify us on your pending transfer of the date you submitted the form to your district of residence.  This will inform us of your intention/request during our available transfer window.  We will make every attempt to work with you to process these as districts make themselves available to sign release forms.

End of Year Ceremonies and Field Trips

Like school closures, traditional promotions and end of year activities will not be able to be held as long as the health restrictions and stay-at-home orders remain in effect. In some cases, schools are considering alternative “virtual” ceremonies and events to celebrate the end of the year. As plans develop, we will communicate details about these plans with you.
