Classification and Compensation Study

La Mesa-Spring Valley Schools has appointed Eric Hall & Associates (EH&A) as the independent consultant to conduct the Classified Employee comprehensive classification and compensation study.

The study will take place over the next nine months with a targeted completion date of June 2023. In addition to updating job descriptions, creating new descriptions and eliminating unused classes if any, the study will include a wage/salary comparison to several applicable nearby school districts.

This page is intended to provide an understanding of what to expect throughout the phases of this project.

Who is involved in the study?

You, our valued Classified Employee. We have asked you to provide information about the work you do through electronic Job Content Questionnaires (JCQ).

What is the Steering Committee? A committee of representatives of the District, Personnel Commission, CSEA Chapter #419, Supervisory and Management employees. The Steering Committee will participate in the planning and output of the study. EH&A will have scheduled meetings with the Steering Committee to provide updates on the progress of the study.

The District and CSEA Chapter #419 will also confer about any recommendations concerning the job class descriptions that may arise from this study.

What are the steps in the process?

Communication: You have received email communication and instructions. An introductory Zoom has been conducted and may be referenced below:

Data Collection: EH&A has begun gathering information on the jobs being reviewed. You are the important first step in the data collection, each phase of the study starts with a questionnaire (JCQ) designed for you to provide key information about the job that you do.

Interviews : A representative from EH&A will directly interview some or all of the employees who have your same job description title. The purpose of the interview will be to clarify the information you provide in the questionnaire. Separate interviews will also be held with your supervisor(s).

Review and Input: You will have an opportunity to review and respond to a draft job description that reflects the information collected from the questionnaires and the interviews.

Once an accurate description has been made of your duties and responsibilities, a final job class description will be prepared and will be used to match benchmark jobs in the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District with similar jobs in our comparison districts.  Results of the review will be subject to negotiations.

We look forward to working with you!
