La Mesa-Spring Valley Schools is pleased to announce the District Teacher of the Year – Manuel Aceves. Manny is a beloved third grade teacher at Bancroft Elementary School, located in the center of Spring Valley.
Manny has been inspiring students for over 28 years. Recently, he and colleague Erin Desautels established Team G.R.I.T. – Growing in Resilience, Integrity, and Trust. They used the model of Navy SEALS, who practice physical endurance and mental fortitude as they serve others. Manny and Erin envision the students of Team G.R.I.T. becoming future leaders of their communities through rigorous physical training and an engaging character building program.
Manny is also a highly-regarded San Diego State University master teacher, working closely with student-teachers who are in the process of obtaining their teaching credentials. In addition to serving as an outstanding elementary school teacher, Manny is also a member of the E3 (Educator Evaluation and Effectiveness) team which is revamping the LMSV certificated evaluation system.
Manny is a teacher and leader with a big heart. He was recognized with an award-winning video produced by Gracias Maestros, an education division of the California Lottery. This video captures how Mr. Aceves has touched the hearts and lives of so many.
