ESS Enrollment

ESS Enrollment Process and Prioritization Criteria

Extended Student Services (ESS) offers comprehensive before-school, after-school, and school break programming from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Due to high demand and program capacity, enrollment is managed through established prioritization criteria and a lottery system.

2026-2027 School Year Enrollment Timeline

Contracts submitted during the enrollment window will be entered into our priority-based selection process, followed by a lottery for students new to the program or district.

  • Enrollment Window Opens: February 17, 2026, at 6:00 AM
  • Enrollment Window Closes: March 13, 2026, at 4:30 PM
  • Email Notifications of Placement: No Later than, April 1, 2026

Enrollment Overview

The ESS enrollment application remains open throughout the school year, allowing families to apply at any time. However, because each site has a specific enrollment capacity, we strongly encourage registering during the official enrollment window. Contracts submitted during this period are prioritized, which offers the highest probability of securing a spot. Enrollment decisions are based on established prioritization criteria and the date and time of contract submission.

We monitor site capacity year-round. If your student is placed on a waitlist, you will receive an email notification only when a spot becomes available and an enrollment offer is extended. You are always welcome to contact the ESS department directly to check on your current status.

Enrollment Process and Selection

Because each ESS program has a specific enrollment capacity, all contracts received during the official enrollment window are processed through a structured selection system:

  • Priority Placement: Spots are offered first to students who meet the established prioritization criteria (see criteria below).
  • Placement Order: Spots are offered by priority group, then by submission time within each group.
  • Lottery Selection: Once all priority contracts have been processed, all remaining contracts submitted during the enrollment window are entered into a lottery. Any additional available spots are offered based on these lottery rankings.
  • General Waitlist: Once the lottery pool is fully exhausted, spots are then offered to students on the general waitlist based on their submission time and prioritization criteria.

STUDENT ELIGIBILITY
Your student(s) must be enrolled at the La Mesa-Spring Valley school to which you are applying for ESS. This also applies to families with TK/Kinder students.

CONTRACT SUBMISSION PROCESS
A contract must be completed and submitted for each student you are enrolling in ESS. You will need your Eleyo account login information and internet access to complete a contract. The contract must be completed and submitted online. All information provided on the application is subject to verification. Falsifying any of the information may disqualify the applicant from receiving ESS services.

SUBMITTING A CONTRACT DOES NOT GUARANTEE ENROLLMENT IN ESS
ESS is a highly impacted program, and demand exceeds capacity at most schools. Contracts are accepted into the program based on the prioritization criteria outlined below, up to the capacity for each school’s program.
