Our program is designed to foster an inclusive environment where students develop the essential skills, character, and confidence needed to succeed both on the field and in life. We aim beyond the scoreboard by nurturing healthy socialization and building a true sense of belonging for every child. We take great pride in the high-quality athletic experience we provide to our families and are honored to have you as part of our growing community!

Frequently Asked Questions:

Accessing the Program

Who is eligible to play in ESSPN

Our league is open to students in the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District.

  • Elementary League: Open to students in grades 3–5.
  • Middle School League: Open to students in grades 6–8.

Is the ESSPN Sports League really free?

Yes! The league is 100% free for our families. We will never ask for registration fees or uniform deposits. This program was created to ensure that finances never stand in the way of a student experiencing the joy of team sports.

How do I sign my student up

Registration happens seasonally. You can pick up a permission slip from your school’s ESS Site Lead, or you can download the forms directly from our Registration Page.

Is there a grade requirement to participate

We view sports as a tool to help students succeed in the classroom, not a barrier to keep them out.

  • For Middle School: We encourage a 2.0 GPA to help build discipline. However, if a student falls below this mark, we do not cut them. Instead, we partner with them. As long as they are submitting missing assignments and maintaining good citizenship, they remain eligible to play.
  • For Elementary: We focus on effort, attendance, and being a good role model in class.

Do I need to buy a uniform or equipment?

No! ESSPN provides team jerseys for all game days. We simply ask that your student wear comfortable athletic shoes and shorts/pants suitable for running.

Scheduling & Logistics

Is transportation provided for away games?

Yes! We coordinate district transportation (busing) for students to travel to away games. Students will depart from their school site and be returned to their school site after the game.

Can I come watch the games?

Absolutely! We encourage families to come cheer on their athletes. We just ask that you review our Program Standards to ensure we are all modeling positive sportsmanship for the students.

When and where are games played?

Games are typically played at roughly 3:15, depending on transportation. Some games are hosted at your home school, while others are played at neighboring schools in the district. You can view the full season calendar on our Schedules Page.

Communication

Who should I contact for questions or concerns about my students team(school).

Your primary point of contact is your ESS Site Lead. Because our coaches are often in class or working with students, the Site Lead is the best person to answer immediate questions about logistics or cancellations. You can find their direct phone number on our Directory Page.

I have a concern that isn’t listed here. Who can I talk to?

We are here to help. For general inquiries, you can email us at ESSPN@lmsvschools.org. If you need immediate assistance, you can call the ESS Main Line at (619) 668-5760.
